Everything you need to know about HVAC Bid Check

About

No. You pay us and nobody else does. We take no commissions, no advertising and no referral fees from HVAC companies, we have no relationship with any contractor, and we never pass your details or your quotes to one. A second opinion paid for by the industry it reviews would not be worth much.

How it works

Against the federal minimum standards in 10 CFR 430.32. The floor depends on the product class - a split heat pump is 14.3 SEER2 / 7.5 HSPF2, a packaged heat pump is 13.4 / 6.7 - on capacity, and for air conditioners on region, which is why we ask for the system type on every row as well as your state. Where a row is a class we hold no figure for, we apply no floor rather than risk telling you a contractor is below one they are not. We check SEER2, AFUE and HSPF2 only; the southwestern states also require an EER2 we do not collect.

No. Every number in it is either something you typed or arithmetic our own software performed on what you typed, plus the published federal minimums. No language model is involved at any point, and your entries are never sent to one.

Leave it blank. A missing capacity, efficiency, warranty, model number or permit line each produces its own finding - that is exactly what we want to surface. We never fill in a figure you did not give us, and a value we cannot read cleanly as a number is refused rather than guessed at.

Pricing

Two documents in Word and PDF: the Quote Review Report (your quotes side by side and normalized, the price spread, a sizing screen, the federal efficiency check and the red flags that fired) and a one-page Questions for Your Contractor sheet built from what your own quotes were missing. You can correct your entries and rebuild up to ten times.

What this is not

No, and it is important that it is not. A Manual J load calculation needs someone in your house measuring windows, insulation and duct runs, and it is graded against a published ACCA standard. We do not perform one, do not sell one, and never produce a tonnage recommendation. We check whether your contractor did one - and if not, that becomes the first question on your sheet.

No. Every flag is a prompt for a question. A contractor who has been in your attic may have an excellent answer - that the ducts cannot carry more air, that the panel will not take the load, that the old system was genuinely undersized. The point is that the answer gets said out loud before you sign.

What you get

Not in those words, because nobody honestly can - the right price depends on your ductwork, your electrical service, your access, your equipment tier and your local labour rate. What we do is line your own quotes up side by side with the spread shown in dollars and per cent. Where they are for the same capacity we also show dollars per ton; where they are not, we withhold it and say so, because a bigger system always looks cheaper per ton and that is a bad reason to buy one.

You will still get a report, and it will still check the efficiency, the sizing screen and the completeness of what you have. But it will tell you plainly that with one quote nobody can assess the price - and that getting two more is the highest-value hour available to you on a decision this size.
